Sorry if you were expecting a blog post about the twins’ second birthday. It was so low key and quiet that I don’t think it’s even worth writing about!
My mum and niece came for a couple of days and everything went quite well actually. I was worried, as I always worry anytime that the Spanish family is involved, that my mum would be fussy or they would complain about things, but to be fair they were quite well behaved (my mum did indeed complain about a couple of things, but all in all it went very well)
On the Saturday Jon’s parents and grandmother came to ours for a BBQ. We were quite lucky with the weather, it turned out to be ok. Nowhere near as hot as the previous year, but decent enough. A bit later on in the afternoon Steve, Karen and Olivia came as well and had a good time overall. But as I said above, everything was very low key. There was no photographer like last year, or even a cake (no blowing the candles this time, sorry guys).
Here’s the summary of their last month.
Feeding.
Elisa is still eating like a champion. She eats so much! Eric on the other hand is nowhere near a good eater. I honestly don’t know how he gets on all day long on only a few bits and pieces. When at home, breakfast is a struggle. They will have a bit of cereal, but they have stopped eating toast at the moment. On Sunday morning I tried frying some eggs and Elisa absolutely loved them, but Eric -no surprise here- didn’t. Well, to be honest, he did eat the yolk but wouldn’t touch the whites. But yeah, it’s getting worrying how little Eric is eating at the moment. I think he eats better at nursery, well, they say he eats almost everything at every meal, but I just find it hard to believe… If he continues like this, I think I will have to call the health visitor.
Their favourite foods at the moment are: melon and watermelon, grapes, strawberries, cheese, paella, sausages, nutella and gazpacho. If it were up to them, they would live on those foods all year round 🙂
Sleeping.
Sleeping has been quite good in the last month. They are still sleeping beautifully through the night, although Eric is taking longer to fall asleep in the evenings. Elisa is ready to go to her cot by 8pm, Eric however will stay away until at least 8:30, sometimes even more. I went out the other night and Jon had to put Eric to bed and he didn’t manage until past 9 o’clock!
Naps are getting shorter. On a normal day I am happy if they sleep for just one hour, really. On days when they have been very active in the morning they will sleep for an hour and a half or even two hours. But they very rarely sleep past 3pm these days.
Development.
They have just gone to the next class up at nursery. Now they are in the Bumblebees! I will miss the Fireflies and all the girls in that class. After 7 months I got to like them a lot! In the last week or so we have noticed an amazing improvement in both Eric and Elisa’s speech. Eric was already way ahead of Elisa, but now his words are even clearer and he is putting more words in a sentence. The grammar is still very poor, almost Tarzan-style but I understand most of what he wants to convey. And Elisa is also getting much better. As I have said previously, I think she is where Eric was probably 6 weeks ago, but the development is consistent so I have no worries for now. She does have a bit of a lisp and I am keeping an eye to see if we can rid of it.
In other aspects of development, for example, one of the milestones to fulfil at nursery before they moved to the next class up was to be able to say multiple parts of the body. They have both excelled in this. They can say (and point to): head, hair, nose, ears, eyes, mouth, hands, arms, belly, legs, feet, toes. They are now also learning elbow, ankle, cheeks, chin, forehead, shoulders and back.
Socialising.
We have seen a few friends over the last few weeks and something that I have noticed almost every time is that it takes them both a considerable amount of time to get used to being with “new people”. So, for example, last Saturday we met with a friend who has got a little boy only slightly older than the twins (I think he was born in January, so he is almost 30 months old) and they pretty much ignored each other for most part of the day. Only when we were getting ready to leave they started to play with each other! And it is pretty much always like this. It’s a bit different if they already know the child. When their nursery friend Marc came to play the other week they started playing together much sooner.
They are still getting on pretty well with each other, but their fights over “possessions” are getting ridiculous. It’s beautiful watching them play together, which they do very often, but seeing them “fight” is heartbreaking because you can’t communicate rationally with them. I honestly can’t wait until we can have proper conversations, where I know that they have understood all I said.
Health.
We’ve had a pretty good month, health-wise! Eric had a vomiting incident on Sunday morning, in the middle of the car park in Festival Place. We were on our way to a birthday party and I thought we would have to turn around and go back home, as he threw up A LOT. However, by the time he emptied his stomach with what looked like soured milk, he looked just bright and ready to go. So we went to the party, apologised as I thought we wouldn’t be able to stay long, but he was a champion and was fine for the rest of the day (and until now!)
Elisa is always bruised, though. Unfortunately it looks like she has inherited my propensity to bruise easily. However, she seems to heal easily too, which is good. Just the other day she got a big cut in her big toe and two days later it was completely healed. Hallelujah.

And this is it for now. We are looking forward to summer to properly start already. It is almost the end of June and we still haven’t had any decent length of good weather. England, eh!?
