It feels like a long time ago since I last wrote… Maybe because it has been a very long week already and many things have happened! So many, that I am going to have to divide this blog post in sections.
Baby Show
Last Saturday, Jon, his parents and me headed to the Baby Show in London. We had a list of items that we wanted to get at the show, as we knew that chances were that we could get them cheaper there… And we did! Jon has related the whole story here, so go ahead and read it… I will only add that it was a very busy day and by the time we got back to Basingstoke I was shattered!
Ante natal visit
On Tuesday Jon and I went to see the consultant again. After what happened last time, I went to the reception desk and asked to be sure to be seen by Mr O’Sullivan because I really struggled with the accent of the other consultant. Unfortunately I was NOT scheduled to see Mr O’Sullivan (again!) and he was completely tied up all day, so there was no chance to be seen by him. The consultant that finally saw us was of Indian origin as well, I think, but his accent was much better and I had no problems understanding him.
Well, it seems like I may have pre-eclampsia, as my urine samples have constantly been showing high levels of protein for the last couple of months. It is not definitive but very likely, as my blood pressure has also gone up lately. The consultant was a bit concerned although not too worried and I have to take my blood pressure twice a week now. I have been referred to a more specialist consultant who will see me in a couple of weeks as well.
In the meantime, I have been prescribed with aspirins which will hopefully thin my blood making the blood pressure a bit lighter.
At the same appointment I had an ultrasound scan and we got to see Pixie and Dixie again! That was good… it’s always great seeing them, although the bigger they get the harder it is to actually see them completely in the same picture! Long gone are the days of the 12 week scan where we could see them both on their bunk beds 🙂
They are growing fine and they seem to be pretty much the same size.
NCT course
On Tuesday evening Jon and I attended our first NCT meeting. I was really looking forward to it because it is always good to know people in the same situation as you and share information and experiences with them.
It took place in our local Community Centre, so that was very convenient, and there were other five couples. Everybody seemed very nice and towards the end of the session we were all getting on very well. It was a bit awkward at the beginning, as everybody was a tad shy, but by the end of it everybody was relaxed and happy to talk freely.
I am the person who is due the latest. Three of the five couples are due in April and the other two in May. I am due in June, although I am mentally ready to receive Pixie and Dixie towards the end of May.
I had heard many mixed reviews about the NCT. Some people love it, some people hate it. A friend of mine said that she found them to be very intrusive and judgemental. However I thought it was brilliant. We all set out our ground rules from the very beginning, and we all agreed that everything discussed would remain confidential and would definitely not be intrusive or judgemental.
Overall I was quite happy with it, and I am hoping that we can make some long lasting friends in there.
Midwife appointment
Today I saw Madeleine at the Rooksdown Practice. The purpose of the appointment was to set up the medication for my Anti-D. I think I’ve explained before that Jon and I have different blood types and this could be dangerous, especially during labour, as my body could throw in some antibodies if one or both babies have Jon’s blood type and there’s some kind of haemorrhage. I need to take this medication starting on my 28th week, and I already have an appointment to see the midwife again then.
Since I was there, I took advantage and asked a couple more questions. One was about the whooping cough vaccine, which she agrees that I should take and it will also happen from 28 weeks onwards. So I’ll probably have it on my next appointment or shortly after that.
I also got my MAT B1 certificate, which I need in order to receive my maternity leave pay from work. Funnily, I needed to give the certificate to my HR department 15 weeks before my due date, which happens to be next week! So good thing that I got the certificate today (I will be talking about my maternity leave in a separate entry).
So, yeah! A very busy week! (And I haven’t mentioned that it was my birthday on Sunday and on Wednesday I had a “Spanish cultural day” at the office for which I had to work very hard!!)
Here’s my photo for this week… More soon to come!

Why do you say that you miss your short hair? then, why don´t you get it cut? I think I´ve missed something… 🙂
Because I hate this country’s hairdressers. They are overpriced and I never get the cut that I want. I will have to have it cut at some point, especially when the kids are around 6 months old and are learning to pull mummy’s hair 🙂
You just are unlucky in hairdressing, mine have been fab here. You should have a treat. 😉 If you come to London, I’ll pass you the ones I have used it before.
You had the same issue than me, I was also Rhesus – or as Mr Cierzo called, awkward blood type. When you give birth, they will put you another anti-d jab. Cierzo jr was born being positive.
