A very quick post to update you on the twins’ latest health check ups.
Back on the 10th, we attended the hospital for Eric’s audiology appointment. We weren’t too concerned about the test as both Jon and I had by then realised that Eric can actually hear.. he reacts to sound in the same manner as Elisa, so no concerns at all. However it is always good to have the all clear from the professionals.
The appointment was at three pm and we were told to avoid Eric to sleep before hand as the test had to be carried out whilst he was asleep. And we almost managed it… but you know what it is like… when a baby falls asleep, there’s little you can do to wake them again! So Eric fell asleep but we woke him up. We fed both babies in the test room and waited for Eric to fall asleep again. And guess what… He wouldn’t go to sleep! We tried everything… Jon even took him for a walk outside! It took us almost an hour to get him ready for the test… Good thing the doctor was ready for the situation (he must have known from previous experience!).
Funny thing is that we had a Tesco delivery booked and I had to leave the hospital with Elisa and WALK home with her! But the good news is that eventually when Eric fell asleep, the test was carried out and the results were positive. It looks like there is something in his left ear, like a blockage, that stops him from hearing anything at whisper level, but it’s not serious at all. The doctor recommended another test in 8 months time to see if the blockage disappears naturally.
The second part of the post is about their immunisations. Their first set of immunisations was last Wednesday and that went better than I thought it would be! I mean, we had been told horror stories so I was expecting the worse.
We went to the surgery and whilst we were waiting Jon popped into the pharmacy and bought calpol… that’s how scared we were! And then we were called in. Eric went first with Jon holding him. And poor bubba… he cried so much! It was heartbreaking… almost as bad as when they were pricked in their heels back in postnatal. And then Elisa, with me holding her… I think she cried a bit less loudly, but maybe that’s just because she’s quieter than Eric.
When we got home and I was expecting the worse: lots of crying, fever, clinginess… but it never happened! Ok, yes, there was some crying just after the injections, but nothing more! They fed well and slept well, and Jon and I were so relieved! We thought that we had got away with it, however, the following day wasn’t great. We got more crying and clinginess (but no fever…).
Next set of immunisations is in 4 weeks time, and I’m not really looking forward to it. I know we got an easy one this time compared to other people, but it is really heartbreaking seeing them in so much pain!
