So, four months waiting to be seen by Mr O’Sullivan and today we finally saw him… However, what was going to be a routine appointment has turned into an admission to the hospital for a couple of days! 🙁
Basically, Mr O’Sullivan doesn’t think that the pre-eclampsia is getting any better and it’s getting to a point where we’re going to have start thinking about delivering the babies. Sooner rather than later… It could be a week, or two, or four maximum, depending on how everything goes.
So for the next couple of days I am staying in the ante natal ward, where I will be closely monitored. They will look at my blood pressure and temperature regularly, I have already had a steroids injection to start maturing the babies’ lungs and I’ll get another one in approximately 8 hours (and it was painful, really painful). We also tried to listen to the babies’ heartbeats, however they weren’t happy about it and didn’t stop moving a lot all the time, making the monitoring a bit of a midwife’s nightmare (those are the words of the midwife, not mine!)
On Thursday morning I will be seen again by Miss Nejad and Mr O’Sullivan, have a scan and they’ll determine whether I need further monitoring or not. One thing is clear, though: Mr O’Sullivan said that I need to stop working now. O_o. He has given me a 2 week sickness certificate that will takes us roughly to the date of my maternity leave anyway… So not a massive impact to our original plans, but still… they’re not going to be greatly impressed at work…
So how’s hospital so far?
So far I can’t complain at all. I’ve been here for about 4 hours and it’s comfy enough. I had lunch (fishermen’s pie, vanilla ice cream, orange jelly, bread & butter pudding and an apple), I’ve chosen my dinner for tonight and breakfast for tomorrow. The bed is comfy although Jon’s had to bring an extra blanket from home because my feet were so cold. There are two other ladies in the room, one of them has been here since Sunday although she’s expecting to be transferred to a different hospital (St Anne’s?); and the other one didn’t say how long she’s been here but she’s got a few more weeks of stay ahead of her… Poor thing!
Also, Jon and I had to plan my hospital bag in a panic. We’ve been meaning to get it sorted for a couple of weeks now, but never found the time. S when the consultant said that I would be staying overnight, it really caught us unprepared!
I am honestly hoping that this is only for a couple of days and then I can go and rest from home. It will be better for my general relaxing levels to be in a known and loved environment than in a hospital with strangers… But i do understand that they have to monitor me closely.
So this is it for now. More soon!
Take care and relax, now you just have to wait until the Dr says it is ok for the 3 of you to go home, I´m happy with his decision of searching deeply in your test results and hope everything is finally fine.
Please, keep us updated with good news!! 😉
Take care and lots of love and kisses from Madrid
