This past week has been quite hard for me. Things haven’t been going very smoothly at work (actually, I’ve had the worst couple of weeks ever) and it’s caught me a bit unprepared mentally. Having issues at work has really affected me emotionally, and I’ve noticed how I’ve been almost depressed. Maybe not depressed, but definitely not my usual self.
The weekend, on the other hand, has been really good. We met with some friends on Saturday in Reading, and other friends today near Newbury. For Saturday’s get together I had to prepare some food, but I came back from work on Friday night so down that I wanted to give everything up and not prepare anything. Thank goodness that Jon was here cheering me up and supporting me. Thanks to him I got my sh*t together and got everything ready.
The couple that we met today for lunch, we met at a shared friend’s wedding last year and they also went through IVF. They now have a beautiful and really cheerful little girl who is the centre of their lives, and it’s beautiful to see how such a little creature can brighten someone’s day so much. V&S have given us lots of hand me down from their daughter: toys, clothes, unused nappies, blankets, etc, for which we are really greatful. This is Pixie completely sorted clothes-wise for the first couple of months!
Maybe at some point next week I will blog about all the presents and free stuff that we already have! It’s great seeing how generous people are when it comes to newborns 🙂
And what else… We believe that Tommy, our cat, is sensing that something is changing and he’s getting a bit jealous. His character has changed considerably in the last couple of months, and especially in the last week or two we’ve noticed a change in him. He now demands more attention and he bothers us more at night. He used to wake us up in the middle of the night for food, but recently he doesn’t seem to care much about the food, he just wants to fuss. And it’s okay to fuss him once every once in a while, but the problem is that he is waking us up three and four times a night… Oh well, I suppose this could count as training for when Pixie and Dixie are here!
On other news, I have finally been measured for maternity bras at Mothercare. It turns out that the size that we originally guessed (36E) was correct, however, the problem lies with the difference between a maternity bra and a sports bra. Sports bras are kind of supportive, but maybe to wear only for a short period of time (whilst you’re exercising) but won’t give you the support you need all day long. I have bought two new maternity bras (actually, Jon bought them for me :)) and I hope that they work a bit better… I really hope so, because they weren’t cheap!
On the pregnancy front, I received a call from the antenatal clinic the other day saying that my urine results came back high in protein (damn!) and I will need to retake the samples before my appointment with the consultant on the 26th. I was hoping that the results came back normal, as I was blaming the reused sample bottle.. but it seems that the problem is mine and not the bottle’s.
I have also started having back pain and swelling of my legs and ankles. This has only happened in the last few days, so I wonder if it has been exacerbated by the stress at work… I knew these thing would happen, it’s just that I find it a bit early to have these nags!
And not much more for now. More in the next few days!
