I am still learning how the whole “weeks” thing works. Today I found this website which I found very useful, as it breaks down the whole pregnancy in weeks and days based on your estimated due date (mine is 15 of June!). I never used to understand why people tell you how far along they are in weeks rather than in months, but I get it now… Things evolve and change so quickly and there are so many things happening at once, that every single day counts.
Well, today I saw a doctor at my local practice and informed her about the pregnancy (it wasn’t my regular GP, who is on holiday at the moment). She was pleased for me, but, strangely, she seemed unsure of what I wanted from her (!). I said I needed three things:
– Get an appointment with a midwife. She then went to find out if my surgery has got its own midwife or not (it does) and told me to go ahead and ask for an appointment at the reception.
– A prescription for further Crinone Gel as advised by Gillian. At this she said that I would need to get it from the Hampshire Clinic because if the IVF had been done privately the NHS could not give me a prescription. I then had to say that the IVF had actually been NHS funded! I am pretty sure it must say somewhere in my notes that the treatment had been actually referred to by my GP! She was happy with my explanation and gave me a prescription for 15 units – 2 week’s worth. I will need another 2 more weeks, as I am supposed to be taking it until Week 9.
– My GP told me that when/if I got pregnant we would need to re-test my thyroid levels and monitor them more closely, as my hormones have probably started going a bit crazy by now and who knows how the pregnancy is affecting them! So I now have the paperwork to go to hospital and have the test done.
So my appointment with the midwife is now set for the 8th of November. I have read somewhere that the first appointment is quite important as she will take lots of information and will do some tests and get the whole family medical history if possible. I will be 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant and expecting my first ultrasound in the next couple of weeks after that!
And what else….
Every day, when I go to the loo and there’s no blood, I breathe so deeply it’s such an amazing relief… And I am going to the loo a lot! This afternoon I went the moment I got home after work, then I went again 15 minutes later just before my doctor appointment, and again right after my appointment. I am a bit torn because they recommend that I drink as much water as I can, but then I am going to the toilet every half hour! I can’t live like that!!!
Also, I was going to write this post a bit earlier this evening, and in it I was going to say that so far I am not feeling any typical pregnancy symptoms. However, this evening, after dinner I have been feeling quite queasy and I’ve had a few cramps in my stomach as well. Nothing too bad, but the queasiness was not nice and for a moment I thought I was going to be sick…. Is that my first encounter with “morning sickness”? (Funny how it’s called morning sickness but it can happen any time of the day!)

More to come soon!!
