We finally took the babies out into town for the first time on Friday. We had to register their birth and the NCT girls were meeting at the Tea Bar in the morning as well, so we made an outing of it… And it wasn’t that bad at all! We survived, despite making a couple of rookie mistakes (we forgot to take blankets with us and also left the portable changing mat at home…)
The birth registry went very well, and the registrar was ever so nice. The whole thing was done in 15 minutes, and we didn’t have many problems with the spelling of the names (although the registrar wanted to spell Eric as “Erick”). We then headed to the Tea Bar, a new place in town, and met the other girls from the NCT group and had a lovely time catching up. I had seen some of them since the birth of their babies, but it was the first time that we all met together, and it was great!
What did we learn from our first outing?
– Always have your bag stocked and ready to go. We had taken the changing may out to use in our living room, and never put it back. So when Jon went to change the babies nappies in town, we found ourselves having to improvise…
– Do not try to squeeze too much in one day. For us, going to the registry office and then to the Tea Bar was more than enough for one day. We wanted to go to Mothercare afterwards as well. But realised that it was a bit too much. We were exhausted!
