If things go well and I do get pregnant, I am going to have to give up alcohol. I am not a heavy drinker anyway… On the contrary, I would consider myself a very conservative drinker. I only drink when I feel like it, and always in moderation.
However, the prospect of a possible 9-month period without touching the golden amber sounds a bit depressing.
So when we were in Booker the other day and we saw a box of Kaliber bottles at a good price, we decided to give them a go (I have officially stopped drinking alcohol since my trigger day injection – I don’t want to risk anything!). Well, I must say they are the blandest and crappest beer I have ever tried in my life. Which is funny, because I am positive that I had drunk Kaliber in Spain before and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as this one.
I now have a full crate bar two bottles to go through. Either that or I feed them to the cat 🙂
That is why I have started researching and I have found a couple of great websites that sell non-alcoholic beer (“alcoholfree.co.uk” and “lonoco.uk”). I’ve had a look at their stock and they have quite a varied range of beers and wines. The problem is that there are only two or three REAL 0.0% beers around. The remainder (most of them) are 0.5% alcohol, which is no good for me. Any alcohol is bad for a developing featus, so it’s not worth risking the health of your unborn child for the taste of a beer.
The two that are purely 0.0% that have caught my eye are:
Ambar green:
Spanish pure 0.0% alcohol and gluten free too! Only 40 calories per bottle. A bonus!
Bavaria Malt
Not so low calorie as the Ambar Green, but still a good deal better than your normal alcoholic beers. German, I assume by the name, which means it should taste good!
If things go well as planned, I believe I will have a tiny bit more choice of pure 0.0% in Spain when I go for Christmas, as I know San Miguel has one and Estrella Damn has got its “Free Damn”.

Look on the review page on my website for lots of other Non-alcoholic beers and their reviews. 🙂
