It’s been a very long time since I last posted – I won’t bore you with the reasons why but all I can say is TWINS!
It’s been a long struggle for Maria and I, trying to adapt to the twins changing needs around our daily schedule; We still have some mountains to climb in the future and taking the kids out on our own is still as much of a challenge today, as it ever was. In fact it’s getting harder.
In the last 3 weeks:
- Eric opened a door with the handle all by himself
- They are both trying to climb out of their baby chairs
- They both are becoming increasingly unhappy about sitting quietly out and about and need to be let out more and more.
- They have learned to climb EVERYTHING. Sofas, baths, pushchairs, boxes, steps, concrete ledges, anything you can name, they’ll have a go at it.
- Words are becoming more recognisable as they utter them.So you can imagine how tough it is for Maria to unleash two of these gorgeous critters without an extra pair of hands to help; Sometimes I wonder how she copes. Sometimes, I wonder how I cope. Collectively, we seem to be working some kind of miracle.
We’ve taken a “home-holiday” which is finishing this weekend, which has been wonderful.
Not particularly relaxing for either of us, but definitely wonderful. While I’ve done as much as I can to give Maria some extra crafting/her time throughotu the fortnight, it’s been a heatwave so any efforts I’ve made in the day have been drained back out in the night as Elisa has needed to sleep in with us at around 10:00pm most nights; There is only one solution to a screaming Elisa in the night:
Mum.
It doesn’t matter what I do. Cuddles, bounces, songs, swinging, whispers, you name it. Nothing happens until up comes mum and suddenly the silence descends as her magical arms cradle a sleepy girl.
Beautiful though this sounds, it is not ideal for Maria as typically any attempt to put Elisa back in the cot causes her to scream again.
So Elisa has been dictating bedtime for Mum during the largest proportion of the holiday.
So I suppose this post is an ode to all Twin Super-mums out there who put up with all these little frustrations ad difficulties on a day to day basis with little respite;
If you are anything like my wife, you are doing an amazing job, under extremely difficult circumstances. I am so proud of my wife, I wish I could do more to help her – But there is not enough time in the day.
I do pledge to try and keep the blog updated a little more though; Maria likes me to interject with my dad-stuff and I enjoy writing the posts; It’s just the to-do list around the house and garden is long and never ending, I guess I’ll just have to squeeze it in whenever I can. I’m thinking another product mini-review post of the top 3 awesome/crap products we have bought in the last year.
Talk soon Blogosphere.
